At this year's TapeOpCon, in addition to our usual panels, workshops and performances, we are also setting up our own "Pot Luck Studio" in the Explorer/Emerald Room. The Explorer Room will be dedicated as the tracking room and the Emerald Room will serve as the control room where attendees will observe the process of recording and mixing a song from start to finish.

With the Pot Luck Studio, we are basically throwing a group of top-notch engineers headfirst into the fire. They are walking into a new studio and have to accomplish the task of turning out a great recording in the limited amount of time available. In addition to a full rack of preamps, compressors, and processors from our sponsors, the engineers will have a grab bag of microphones that they can use to record the band.

Special thanks to MXL for their donation of the Mogami cabling we need to hook up the entire studio. Without them, we would be looking at gear and not listening to it. Also thanks to IZ Corp. for the Radar System and Soundcraft for the Ghost console. Additional thanks to ATC for their monitors and portable baffles and to Ben Lily from ATC for flying all the way over from London to tune the studio!

The Women's Audio Mission will be the hosts and moderator of the Pot Luck Studio all weekend long. Tape Op veterans Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3 will serve as our guinea pig band for the sessions, which will be stretched across the three-day weekend. These sessions will be broken into separate workshops, each focusing on a specific step in the process.
