Keynote Interview with Joe Boyd
Saturday, June 9, 2007 - 5:30pm
- Presidio Rooms I and II
Ben London, Executive Director of the Pacific
Northwest Chapter of The Recording Academy, will interview
music and producing legend Joe Boyd and discuss his new
book White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s.
Boyd has led an amazing career from his start in the '60s
as a production and tour manager for the European tours
of Muddy Waters, Coleman Hawkins, and Stan Getz to supervising
the 1966 Newport Folk Festival when Bob Dylan shocked the
world with his electric set. He opened the famed UFO, London's
psychedelic ballroom and recorded some of music's most seminal
artists of the last 40 years - including Eric Clapton and
the Powerhouse, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Richard and Linda
Thompson, Maria Muldaur, Toots and the Maytals, REM, Kate
and Anna McGarrigle, 10,000 Maniacs, Billy Bragg, Cubanismo,
and Taj Mahal. Boyd was also the head of music for Warner
Brothers Films, overseeing and organizing the scores for
Deliverance, A Clockwork Orange, McCabe
and Mrs. Miller and produced the well-loved eponymous
documentary Jimi Hendrix.

The Price Is Right
Sunday, June 10, 2007 - 2:30pm
- Presidio Rooms I and II
Do you ever wonder why really good sounding equipment for
our studios seems so expensive? Why are there so many knock-offs
available of the truly classic pieces that promise that
they are the same sounding (according to the specs) but
in reality, are often times a disappointment? What does
it take to design a truly great piece of recording equipment?
How long does it take to go from design to market? What
are the challenges of meeting the demands of the public
through the distributors? What does it take to make a "classic"
piece?
Scheduled to Appear: Lynn Fuston (moderator), Dave Amels,
Chuck Surack, Brad Lunde, Kevin Becka, Dave Hill, Teddy
Fletcher, Rupert Neve
