FRIDAY
NIGHT DETAILS
We'll
start with a relaxing bus ride from the El Con to
Club Congress, where you can purchase some fantastic
New Orleans cuisine on the cheap while being entertained
by some of our Tape Op Con regulars.
After
dinner we will walk across the street to the Rialto
Theater for a concert set by the Rebirth
Brass Band. If you don’t already
know about them, Rebirth has become the best of
the New Orleans funk brass bands and are world-famous
for their musicality and energy. Post-Katrina this
band's name could not be more fitting, as they are
indeed leading the charge when it comes to the rebirth
of the entire Gulf Coast.
After
Rebirth's set, it's back across the street to the
Club Congress indoor stage for a rocking performance
by Sunpie
Barnes and the Louisiana Sunspots.
Sunpie is fast becoming one of the most important
players in the New Orleans revival movement, and
is dedicated to passing the heritage of the New
Orleans sound on to the next generation through
his work with the Park Service and the Music For
All Ages program.
After
Sunpie, the eclectic sounds of Gentleman
Auction House will take over and rock
until closing. You may recognize the "Gentleman"
as some of our hard working TapeOpCon staff members
from the past three years. |
SATURDAY
NIGHT DETAILS
Our
one-of-a-kind concert kicks off at 8pm sharp. The
sunset poolside bar will be open for you to purchase
drinks and food during the concert. The poolside
bar will stay open after 10, if folks want to hang
out and continue to order food and beverages. Dos
Locos will also be open, with Carl Hanni
spinning his scratchy records. Of course, you can
always wander down to the Last Territory and whoop
it up with the local Saturday night crowd, who comes
up to dance to Country and Western music.
Finally, our Peanut Butter and Jelly bar will be
open for late-night snacks in the registration foyer
of the hotel starting at 1am!
